When Gamespy, or whoever was doing it, stopped hosting multiplayer games for Armada, many people were very, for lack of better terms, PISSED!
A few months ago, I found a solution called GameRanger. It is a free program that hosts a wide variety of multiplayer games, including Armada. Through GameRanger, we can play Armada again YAY!!!
There are a few little quirks to this. After all, nothing is perfect. Here is how it works.
1) Download GameRanger from gameranger.com
2) Set up a username & etc., then scroll through the list of servers until you see an Armada server.
3) Double click the server you want, you will be placed in a chat room
4) When host is ready, they will push launch. This launches Armada automatically.
5) GameRanger sets up the game like a LAN, wait patiently and it will take you to the setup screen for the map
6) Play the game normally.
The problems:
1) Once the host launches from the GameRanger chat room, you cannot rejoin the game.
2) Armada will lag if anyone is playing with Windows Vista (Trust me, I hate that part, but now I got an XP computer up and running)
3) There is a group of about 8 people who are constantly playing the game. They think they are all that and a bag of potato chips. They will instantly call you a noob and treat you as such. Therefore, I suggest you find some of your buddies and drag them onto the game. (Shepherd, that means you... INSTALL DANG IT!!! lol)
If necessary, I would like to set up a time where we can get some BC players together and play some Armada. Either way, give me a little ring if you want to play Armada. If I'm around, then I will probably say yes.
Once again, the website for GameRanger is gameranger.com
Hope to see you in Armada
