Is the Fabric of Bridge Commander Nearly Destroyed?
Over the past year I have noticed that there is an attrition of players in BC. The number of players has probably declined for a couple of good reasons.
1: A group or clan of players has made the BC experience unwelcoming.
2: Harassment towards players that don’t wish to join a clan as well as the mismanagement of a clan member.
3: New games that have come on to the market.
4: Players bored with BC.
These are just a couple of top reason why the numbers of players in BC have diminished. Bridge Commander was release 7 years ago and has faired better than most on line games. When I started playing BC on line I was amazed on how many servers were on. Most of the time there no less that 8 hosted servers any time day or night and now maybe 3 or 4 and usually in the evening time here in the US.
Let’s look at number 1 above and let’s step back and think of who could be making a bad example of BC as a game. Can anything be done to fix this problem? If the main reason that the number of players are diminishing due to a certain group or groups this affects us all that enjoy this game. At this rate there won’t be any players left in BC.
Number 2; It is an old ploy to harass independents to get them to join a clan. What they do first is; send in a clan member under a different name and harass a independent then the clan member with his real name and tags comes in and says, “Hey if you join our clan we can protect you.” So the independent is left with two options, one he can join the clan and end the harassment or two not join and continue getting harassed. If he chose the latter he will get tire of the harassment and leave BC.
Number 3; Many games come on to the market ever year and most are very entertaining, yet BC being played now for more than 7 years still can hold its own. With the talented people who brought us KM .9.1, and KM 1.0 have given new life to BC. These gentlemen now working on a Remaster KM 1.0 to give new life yet again.
Number 4; As with all games people do get bored with a game. But I feel that it isn’t boredom that people give up BC. That is to say to those players that have been apart of BC for a long time.
In my opinion, they get tired of all the drama that is created in BC. I have friends that play a vast array of on line games and they tell me that the drama isn’t any thing like it is in BC. There are those out there that can not treat it as a game. They have made it personal. They go out of their way to not to be good sportsman. They provoke people with insults that have no business being said. If this type of behavior is to continue then BC will be destroyed. When I started playing BC there were many clans and now but a few are left and the ones that are out there currently some have scared the face of BC deeply. I say to the major clans in BC that if you continue down the path you are on it will be only yourselves that will be left. Is this truly your goal then BC will be empty space. You will have run off all the others that have enjoyed BC for your own personal pleasure. I realize you feel that you are doing what is best for your clan but are you doing what is best for BC. This should be more important is to make sure that BC doesn’t fade away. As clans you have a responsibility to all that are in BC and not just your clan.
Think about it. Make the right decision.
